On the 29th and 30th of May 2023, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) had a study visit fromTanzania Revenue Authority (TRA). Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) is a semi-autonomous Government Agency of the United Republic of Tanzania that undertakes to assess, collect, and account for all revenue to which those laws apply, and monitoring and ensuring the collection of fees, charges, levies, or other taxes that have been collected, on behalf of the Government.

Tanzania sent 8 delegates, consisting of 7 personnel from TRA led by Alphayo J. Kidata, Commissioner General (HoD) of TRA, and 1 personnel from Tanzania Ministry of Foreign Affairs represented by Suleiman Magoma as Desk Officer for Indonesia. Director of International Taxation of DGT, Mekar Satria Utama, accepted the visit and held a session accompanied by Leli Listianawati, Head of International Cooperation and Tax Agreement Subdirectorate, Satrio Adhi Wibowo, Head of Section of International Cooperation and Tax Agreement I, and Niken Evi Suryani, Head of Section of International Cooperation.

The study visit was the second for TRA in 2023. Previously, TRA visited DGT on 1st March 2023 to learn Indonesian tax implementation on Sharia transactions. On this visit, TRA did a benchmarking of the tax automation system in Indonesia, and a preliminary discussion of double tax agreement and MoU in tax matters. The first day of visit was held in DGT Head Office with the agenda of presenting the Tanzanian and Indonesian tax systems and administration. The visit was then continued in North Jakarta Medium Tax Office on the second day.

The head of North Jakarta Medium Tax Office, Rekno Nawansari welcomed TRA visit accompanied by her fellow Head Section in North Jakarta Medium Tax Office Auditorium. On that study visit, Rekno presented her office’s profile and performance and her strategy for improving taxpayer compliance. The study visit went very well with lively discussions and meaningful Q&A sessions.

“I’m so thankful for the amazing hospitality from DGT. There’s a lot to learn from this benchmarking, to find which system suit best for TRA specifically,” said Alphayo J. Kidata as a closing remarks on North Jakarta Medium Tax Office visit.

The last session of the visit was done with preliminary discussions regarding the double tax agreement and cooperation in tax matters to enhance both countries’ economic cooperation. the 2-day study visit was closed by a heart-warming exchange of tokens of appreciation and a photo session.
