In order to increase synergy and provide education to taxpayers as an effort to recover National Economy after Covid-19 pandemic, Jakarta Special Regional Tax Office held Tax Gathering 2023 at Vasa Hotel Ballroom, Surabaya (Thursday, 12/1), by presenting Indonesia Economy Outlook 2023 and welcoming Tax Reform 2024. This event was attended by 42 taxpayers in the East Java region. This event was also held to appreciate taxpayers who have made a significant contribution to tax revenues.
Tax Gathering 2023 presented notable resource persons, including Iwan Djuniardi (assistant of the minister for regulation and taxational law enforcement), Neilmaldrin Noor (director of tax public relations), and Irawan (head of the Jakarta Special Regional Tax Office), to share information about the Indonesian economy's outlook for 2023 and tax reform with all invitees. In the first session, Henny Suatri Suardi, Chair of the Committee, gave an opening speech saying that this was an opportunity to establish a better relationship with taxpayers.
"We hope that this event will be a forum to discuss and share information together on current issues related to Indonesia Economy Outlook 2023 and Tax Reform 2024," said Henny.
It then moved on to the presentations of the three invited speakers. Irawan Head of the Jakarta Special Regional Tax Office, as the first speaker, opened his presentation by presenting APBN 2023 and fiscal policy in facing the 2023 economy. To face the 2023 economy, Irawan conveyed that the government and citizens needed to recover together. Collaboration between the government, in this case the Directorate General of Taxes, and the public (taxpayers) is very important in facing 2023.
The next presentation was delivered by Iwan Djuniardi, assistant of minister for regulation and taxational law enforcement, with the headline "Indonesian Fiscal Policy 2023, Increased Productivity for Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Transformation." Iwan explained that well handling of Covid-19 pandemic has encouraged ongoing economic recovery. It is proven that even though inflation is still quite high in various countries and the trend of weakening global economic growth, Indonesia is showing a positive trend of economic growth. In addition, positive growth trends in various sectors, such as the transportation sector and the accommodation & food and beverage sector, show that the economy continues to move forward. The banking sector also showed strengthening, where increased of credit growth indicating that economic activity was on the move. Spatially, all regions are able to grow positively, which shows that economic growth in Indonesia is starting to be evenly distributed.
The last resource person, Neilmaldrin Noor, Director of Tax Public Relations, closed the series of presentations by providing information about Tax Reform of the Directorate General of Taxes. Neil mentioned that tax reform needs to be carried out because DGT is facing various challenges, including: the development of the digital economy and rapid technological advances, increasing tax revenue targets, the need for rules to support the development of trade economic transactions, and the needs to improve taxpayer compliance. The tax reforms are expected to provide convenience for taxpayers in registering, paying, managing tax returns, tax education services and taxpayer account management that are integrated in taxpayer portal. Taxpayer portal is an integrated online application by prioritizing user experience to provide convenience in fulfilling Taxpayers' Tax rights and obligations. At the end of the session, Neil also presented quite crucial points in 2023 that identity number (NIK) becomes the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP), therefore it is expected that taxpayers update their own data to obtain more optimal taxation rights and services.
After the presentation ended, the moderator led a panel discussion which was enthusiastically followed by taxpayers. Many taxpayers enthusiastically participated in that panel discussion by asking various questions to those three speakers. At the end of the event, Irawan gave a message not to give anything to employees (not to bribe). Irawan also hopes that taxpayers can provide suggestions and input for the improvement of services to taxpayers. Responding to this, the taxpayers who attended gave support to the Special Jakarta DGT Office to always make improvements and support the declaration of the Special Jakarta DGT Office to become a ZI-WBK predicated office.
