The matching of Residential Identification Number (NIK) to Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) is officially extended. The use of 16-digit TIN will take effect on July 1st, 2024, from the original set of January 1st, 2024. "With the serve of PMK-136/2023, taxpayers can have more time to match the TIN immediately," explained Tomi Hadi Lestiyono, Tax Instructor of the Foreign Investment One Tax Office on tax-talk Instagram live in Jakarta (Wednesday, 13th/12).

The prolonged due date for TIN matching also provides additional time for the government agencies to adjust the public service system that uses the TIN as one of the validations. The change in the number of TIN digits, previously 15 to 16, requires the public service’s system to adjust its database. One of the adjustments is creating a new temporary database for 16-digit without replacing the original one for 15-digit TIN. In addition, the public service agencies need to lengthen the field number for the new 22-digit format Identity Number for a Separate Place of Business Activities (NITKU) for the branch taxpayers. Lastly, system adjustment can be made by increasing the length of the system interface's field to accommodate the new 16-digit TIN. "This adjustment is necessary because in the future public services will use both NIK and NPWP to validate business documents," added Amilya Yusnita, one of the speakers on the afternoon tax-talk series.

The TIN matching is still ongoing until it becomes effective next year. The Directorate General of Taxes opens several channels to extend the services for matching the TIN, one of which is through the official page www.portalnpwp.pajak.go.id.
